March 20, Angkor Wat cont'd
After a lunch, which included chicken, we continued on.
During the raining season, particularly November, the area floods so houses are built on stilts.
A long way north of Angkor is Banteay Srei dating from 967 AD. It is intricately carved and detailed in pink sandstone.
Late afternoon we returned to Angkor Wat, the symbol of Cambodia.
One of the big inner courtyards.
Up there behind the railing is where we'll climb, although on wooden steps, not the original stone.
This is what they looked like coming down. Very steep, very tiring going up, treacherous going down.

The wat at sunset. Beautiful.
