April 3 Shanghai
Second day in Shanghai, and the overnight was an opportunity to take pictures. The rain had started in earnest as we had returned from our first day of walking around, and it was rainy and foggy and misty during the evening hours. The Shanghai light show was just as good as the one in Hong Kong, even though it didn't have lasers or a soundtrack.
We took the shuttle bus to the top of the Bund and this time we walked down the shopping street Nanjing Road.
There was colorful landscaping everywhere along the Bund.
Nanjing became a pedestrian street a few blocks away from the Bund.
It was cool as well as rainy. This building makes the conversion from C to F for you.
There must be one of these in the US but I haven't seen it yet. You could buy all sorts of M&M branded items.
After walking a mile or so down Nanjing Road, we went north to walk back along Beijing Road, just for the different view. Beijing Road appears to be the hardware street. We passed this store, which has an interior similar to a Home Depot, but with a stranger set of items. Just inside the door was a display cabinet with various lathe parts.
Reuse for phone booths. I think you put your coins in the slot and you get a period of wifi. There were several of these along the street.
Another specialty hardware store, selling all sorts of gaskets. Another store had thousands of different sizes of springs.
One of the many high rise apartment buildings near the Bund.
Here's a closeup of the verandahs of the building above. Everywhere we went, most people used their patio for clothes drying. We were told by a guide that it was more of a closet than a drying spot. Since the apartments are so small they needed to use every possible spot productively.
blog administrative note: the pause in posting was due to a 4 day trip through China. More stuff appearing shortly......

Hooray! New content!
we've been away for 4 days; dave is working on those pictures and since we took ~3400 pictures between the 2 of us it takes him a while! Even more new content will be coming.
Unfortunately he will have to hurry or wait until after Japan since they take internet away from us.
