Mar 6 Montevideo

Round 2 for Montevideo. This time we're on our own, walking through the city.

Marina kissing Princess

A range finder from the Graf Spee. I think it says something about Uruguay when their most famous war story involves two other countries fighting a naval battle 90 miles offshore.
The mercado, closed early in the morning. We'll be back.
Pedestrian street from the port.

In Uruguay, all marriages are a civil ceremony. We happened to walk past that office, and saw several wedding parties outside. I'm not sure who is the happy couple here.
But here the couple is being showered with rice. We saw lots of rice thrown for several couples.
Church belfry overlooking the square that also contained a McDonalds. We sat there for the ringing of 10am drinking McDonalds drinks.
We walked all the way to Independence Square. This is the city gate, seen from the other side.
Just off the square is this enclosed area. The area to the right is a ramp. Seemed like a place for a skateboard. It also seemed like a good place for parents with kids. Places to sit and only one entrance.

Inside of the cathedral
Not sure about this guy. He seems to be selling food items, yet the store behind him is a hardware store with lots of electrical items in the window. And the "pasta" on his spoon is electrical wire.
Where we walked was a narrow peninsula. The open ocean is ahead of us, the port is behind us.

Back at the mercado, there are lots of places to eat. Meat is prominently displayed.

Artisan's shop that got some of our money.
Entrance to the port
Michelle, our social hostess, singing at the Captain's Party. We first met Michelle on the Around The World trip in 2016. You can see her as King Neptune's consort here
