Mar 3 Montevideo Uruguay

This is the first of two visits to Montevideo. Uruguay is probably the most successful of the South American countries.

We opted for a highlights tour, and got a great guide in Elina. She was interesting, took us everywhere, and was 80 years old!

Not sure about this welcome to the harbor.

Buses waiting for tour departures
New crew members waiting to board. The crew is totally replaced about every 6 months, so there's a constant influx of new members (and an outflow of the vacationing crew).
Independence Square
Notice the woman walking her dog, in spite of the sign suggesting no walking on the grass and no dogs. Independence!
Founder of Uruguay

Another fountain use -- shower
The old wall of the city
Theater
Further east, the legislature building
Murals across the street

We visited a market, and this was across the street. I wish this had been open so I could get some confit.

A monument to the original settlers

Over to the beach, a monument to the people who save shipwreck victims. I assumed this was for the Coast Guard, sut it was for the Navy.
We returned along the coast with a yacht basin...
...and a beach
and an excellent boardwalk that goes for miles kilometers.
Wait, have we been transported to Dubai? A building near the harbor.
