Some things on the way to Punta Arenas. As befits our exalted status within Oceania (i.e,, we've spent a lot of money with them, the General Manager invited us to dine with her in Privee. This is a special, super secret-ish dining area hidden in the back. The company was excellent, the food was OK.
The weather was pretty much what you'd expect from the bottom of the world......so we went to a wine tasting (also a benefit of our exalted status). After a careful examination of everything we were offered, I decided they were indeed wines.
Not everyone successfully navigates the Magellan Strait.
The weather turned nice for us.
A full moon
We had nothing scheduled for Punta Arenas, so we did a walkabout.
We're along the Pacific Rim of Fire. If the alarm sounds, head for the hills.
A founder of Chile, Bernard O'Higgins.
Here's the guy that started it all, Ferdinand Magellan. He holds the honored spot in the town square.
The cathedral facing town square.
Fairly simple inside.
The river that runs through town. Reminds you of Los Angeles.
I enjoyed this window display...cookware and kitchen utensils and a .....weedeater?
A shopping mall that attracted our attention and Chilean Pesos.
Visible from our ship, a tribute to Magellan.
Taken from a long distance because I was too tired to walk 2 miles to see it, a tribute to Sir Ernest Shackleton.
I was amused by these dockworkers. They would spend 10 minutes stuffing cardboard into the white cloth bags. Then the crane operator would lift the bag up and place it into the dumpster. The workers would then empty the cloth bag in the dumpster.
