Tuesday 9/2
We left Indianapolis early and in a drizzle.  Arrived early into a beautiful Chicago, and our room was ready.  No need to check bags!  Grab the stuff we needed and took it to the room while the car vanished into valet parking.  First stop was the Michigan Ave bridge and the architecture river cruise.  We wandered about somewhat in finding the right spot -- navigation just north of the river is difficult right there.

The cruise was wonderful and we took lots of pictures of fabulous buildings from the river vantage.  Lots of architecture stories, and Mrs. O'Leary's cow even appeared in a short, walk-off role.

Still wanting to take advantage of the great weather we crossed the river to the Shoreline Hop-On-Hop-Off tour bus.   It took us on a giant loop of all of the "must see things" and we didn't even get off the bus.  We did no Hopping during the day.  It was a double-decker bus so we sat in the sun and took pictures all around us.  It took about 2 hours to cover the entire loop.  It would have taken much longer, and certainly worn us out, to have tried to do it by walking and public transportation.  There were places we would have liked to hop-off, like the Navy Pier, but there just wasn't enough time in a 10-hour tour of Chicago.

Off the bus, we walked about 1/2 mile to Millennium Park and visited the Cloud Gate, or "the bean", which is hard to describe.  Think of a giant highly polished silver kidney bean-shaped art installation.  You can stand in front of it and see your image reflected back, along with the sky, clouds, trees and other people which makes it a cinch to take selfies but shooting towards the bean back at yourself, rather than the other way around.  When you walk under it and you look up there are at least 4 of you and all of the other people,  only distorted....way cool, and very popular!

Had our first and only meal in Chicago at Gino's East, and of course we had deep-dish pizza.  It was very well done and enjoyed it.  Didn't like the crust as well as thin pizza -- didn't taste like bread sticks. We walked to the river at twilight to take some dusk/night pictures with the night sky and artificial lights of the city.

We were pretty tired by the end of the day.  And Wednesday was planned as the longest driving day of the vacation, ten hours from Chicago to Fargo ND.
