Tues Sept 16 -Crater Lake
First and most important, here's shot of some actual Voodoo donuts. Cocoa Puffs, Fruit Loops, filled chocolate and maple bar.
Even though the Pacific was very calm early in the morning, there was still a lot of thundering and crashing outside our room. We managed to take only 200 pictures before an excellent breakfast, and we were on our way.
First stop was the Devil's Churn, but the combination of small waves and a low tide gave the devil the morning off. Not much activity, although you could see the potential. Nearby was a lighthouse high above the beach.
Crater Lake is still epic, although the water was not as blue as our original visit. Maybe it's the drought, maybe it's September and not June, but we recalled deep blue (with a skim of yellow pine tree pollen) on our original visit. This time was more of a steel blue. Still a great view and an interesting part of the volcanic rim of the Pacific.
Also some wildlife. Not very wild, and interested in anything you might offer. Or drop.
Drove to the Pinnacles, which was closed on our last because of snow (in June). The pinnacles look like they should melt in the rain, but they were formed during the volcanic eruption long ago and are rock hard.
Stayed at the Crater Lake Lodge, one of the old park hotels of a bygone era. Room was very small, wifi existed but you could almost see the individual ones and zeroes moving through the aether. No air conditioning, but as the desk clerk explained, "We have windows that open and fans that work." It got very cool outside but the fan was hard pressed to move much of that into the room -- the outside wind was working against it. But we slept well in the cramped room. And the shower was much better than our previous visit. Last time it worked about like one of the misting stations set up to cool you off.
