Thursday Sept 4

A great recovery from Chicago traffic.  Today everything is going great!  Weather has been wonderful--warm during the day and cool in the evening.  Mostly sunny with some dramatic clouds in the sky.

Fields of sunflowers all along the interstate.  And these western states set the speed limit at 75mph.  The scenery goes by fast.

The park ranger at Theodore Roosevelt National Park seemed different to me.  But we showed our pass and he stepped aside to let us in.

The views are magnificent.  I can't imagine exploring this place on horseback.  It's all up and down and swales running into hills.  If it weren't for the NPS road, most people couldn't get to these places.

The Little Missouri winds through part of the park.

Lots of prairie dog villages.  More bad news for you and your horse.

We ate dinner at the Roosevelt Hotel, but I was disappointed in the renovation that had taken place in the hotel proper.  However, the food was wonderful.  I asked our server who was from Northern Ireland, if she went home when the park closed down and she said, "No, I go to Boca Raton, Florida!"  Pretty small world!
