August 15 Nuuk Greenland

It's a beautiful but COLD day in Greenland and we visit Nuuk, the capital. The shuttle bus takes us from the dock up and over a ridge into the center of town. It's only about a mile, but it saves a lot of walking uphill.

We get dropped off at the shopping street and overlooking the old town. It was windy on top of the ridge and the temperature was in the 30s. It was cold.

An overview of the old town. On the far right is the church and slightly right of center is the statue of Hans Egede, a Danish-Norwegian missionary who founded the city in 1728.

The beach in the old town. No one was sunning themselves on this summer day.

You might think that a statue that attracted visitors would have a graded or even paved path to get to it. In Nuuk you'd be wrong. You have to find your own path from the several that people have created through the rock and sand.

Did I mention that the beach is a solid rock?

Having descended to the beach we had to climb back up to the shopping street.

The ship offered a RIB adventure. Even with the brightly colored waterproof jumpsuits the riders put on, zipping along the water has to be cold.
