August 14 Paamiut Greenland

After two days at sea crossing from Iceland to Greenland, we arrive at Paamiut. As we neared Greenland, icebergs began to appear.

Paamiut was a tender port, so we traveled about 15 minutes through fog to find the dock. The tenders don't have radar or GPS displays so I guess they find their way just via dead reckoning. And a guy in the front with a long white cane.
The marina

Housing going up from the marina on a steep hillside. You can also see what looks like hot water pipes distributing heat from the central power plant.

The museum
The church, with a definite Norwegian stave church architecture.

Next to the church was this "graveyard" which didn't actually have any graves. It looked to be a memorial to all the children that had died. None of the crosses had dates that exceeded 15 years of life.

Small but mighty pipe organ in this tiny church

Many of the Scandinavian churches have a sailing ship suspended above the main aisle, a tribute to the seamen and fishermen who founded their towns.

View from inside the tender on the way back to the Marina. Our boat captain has his head out the upper hatch where he can see nothing in the fog.
Late in the afternoon the fog lifted and we could see the islands between our anchorage and the town dock.
To the right in the channel into town is the rusting hulk of a freighter.
