After the hustle-bustle of Laguna San Rafael, we take the slow boat to Punta Arenas. The captain avoids the open seas as much as possible, since the winds and waves can be vicious below 50 degrees south. We wind through the islands of Chilean Patagonia.
The weather ranges from bright and sunny to foggy, rainy and windy.
The local inhabitants are happy to see us.
Partly cloudy skies and intermittent rain yields some impressive rainbows.
We did venture out into the open seas during both nights, and it got a little bumpy then, but more people were asleep in bed at the time. The ship has to get beyond the 12-mile limit to dump the waste water holding tanks.
