Feb 19 Puerto Montt, Chile

Hadn't expected this to be a tender port, but the dock is just too shallow to get to except at highest tide, and then only briefly.  So we lowered the tenders and went ashore.  Our choice was a trip to scenic Petrohue Falls and Puerto Varas.

Puerto Montt is at the southern end of the Pan American Highway.  I don't recommend driving here.  You first notice that this area is much more prosperous than the cities to the north.

And there's a marked German influence in the area.  In the late 1800s Chile recruited Germans to come to this area.  They did and created a Chilean Bavaria.
Llanquihue Lake with the Osorno volcano.
Llamas across the street from the scenic overlook, beckoning you to their restaurant.  This one appears coy.
 On to the Petrohue Falls
 Interesting walkway into the area
The inhabitants were happy to see us
 Osorno volcano
This area is all volcanic rock

 Another, extinct volcano nearby
The non-volcano areas are just farmland like the northern US.

Lots of roses in the city
 Beach art
A very pretty place, and amazingly good weather.  It's very green here because it rains every day -- except the day we were here.  I'd rather be lucky than good.

Beautiful photos of the volcanos. You were very lucky, when we were there it was raining so no volcano views. What's up with the new cruise itinerary missing all of Asia? Hope you're not too disappointed!

Nah, we're cool about changes. Don't want to become another Diamond Princess!! Think that Perth and Sydney will be new changeover ports for crew changes, food resupply containers, segment cruisers instead of Singapore and Hong Kong. We like Perth/Fremantle and love Sydney!
