July 8 Bergen Norway

We return to Bergen for the second (or third) time.  A charming place with lots of history, but unfortunately, the weather stays with us -- cloudy, grey, cold and misting rain when we dock at 9am.

The sail in through the fjords was impressive.
 Bergenhus- historic regal residence
The colorful waterfront of Hanseatic League houses in Bryggen
The funicular to the mountaintop was iffy with clouds coming right down to the mountaintops for much of the day.
Our vendor in the fish market who sold us a pair of woolen socks.
 Town center

Optical illusion -- the pattern makes it look like there are grooves in road, but it's flat across.
 St. John's Church

He was important enough to have a statue, but that's just not dignified with a pigeon for a hat.

The district known as the Klosteret is composed of compact and, in most cases, impeccably well-maintained wooden houses immediately adjacent to one another.
On the outskirts of Klosteret there was this public "Plantation Station" with a potting bench just beyond-anyone could use it and on the honor system to clean up.

Nykirken, now a church for children, as a wonderful man inside explained to us.

 City Wall Gate
 Fish Market
I did not go up these stairs.
