Oct 11 Last day in Santa Fe

Our tour guide Pat had another great day planned for us in Santa Fe.  Yesterday we went North, today we went South to see the Tent Rocks National Monument.  We had never heard of it before, but it was well worth the visit.

Tent Rocks is a small park, and they limit the number of cars inside to equal the number of parking places, which is about 100.  The loop hike is about 1.2 miles, with the side trip to Slot Canyon another mile each way.  So figure on 2-3 hours for most visitors.  We got right in, but when we left there were cars lined up past the "60 minute wait" sign (just like Disney World).  Translated: Arrive Early.
Some areas had a Bryce like view, but here there's a hard rock on top sheltering the softer stone beneath.
We hiked the loop trail, and a portion of the slot canyon, enough to get a feel for it's "slottiness,"

 Very slotty

A cave opened up by people hundreds of years ago.
The Tent Rocks themselves.  Look more like Teepee Rocks.

We visited the artist town of Madrid, looked at lots of things, bought nothing except ice cream.

This is the place we bought ice cream.  Glad we weren't here two days ago.
