May 3 Dubai, UAE

Up early today to catch the first shuttle bus into the city.  The Big Bus shuttle took 30 minutes on its best run Thursday morning, and more like 45 minutes in the afternoon.  We arrived at the Dubai Mall and waited for our connection to the Green Beach Route which further connected to the Blue Marina Route.  In general there was a 15-minute wait every time you connected from one Big Bus conveyance to another.

That's a tall building.  Our friends went up to the 124th floor observation deck.  The elevator took one minute to get up there.  Their stomachs arrived a minute later.
Sails of the Desert -- Burj Al Arab Jumeirah
Even in a Muslim country the foreigners can frolic on the beach
The Madinat Jumeirah, fashioned to look like a breaking wave.  Yet another 5-star hotel on the beach.
There's a very large high rise residential district near the Marina
And I've been putting '2018' on my checks
90 degree twist in the building.
 The actual marina
Dubai will have the world's largest (of course) "Eye" once they finish their Ferris Wheel.
This is the way you get around if you live on the Palm Jumeirah.  You have to look at the map to appreciate the size and layout.  I found it much bigger than I anticipated -- each palm frond is a full size street with large houses on either side.
 Atlantis, the Palm, 5-star hotel.
The whole place had a Disney World quality to it.

Another beach at the Palm, Jumeirah.  Squeaky white sand beaches, since they import nothing but the best.
This new building's architecture looks like a boat on top.  I guess if you're going to build right next to the Burj Khalifa you need to make your building memorable in some way.
