July 31 Victoria

After a lovely sail away from Prince Rupert....

...we had a day at sea.  One of the benefits we receive from Oceania because we have spent so much money on them is a Wine Tasting.  Like all of their dining, this is done quite well. (I believe that it cost more than $100 per person to buy your way in, but I don't recall for sure.)

Here's Leonardo running the event.  He's the Head Sommelier, and knows more about wine than I do about computers.

The chefs also participate, coming up with delicacies to accompany the wines.  We tasted five cabernet sauvignon varieties from different California wineries.  They all tasted the same to me.  Others were more discriminating.

We arrived in Victoria, ready for adventure...or at least an excursion.

We chose to revisit Butchart Gardens because it's always pretty.  The drive through Victoria is lovely.  Here's the Empress Hotel, just the place for an afternoon tea.

It seems like there are miles of paths leading through the different gardens, but it's probably less than that.  My walking pain (sciatica) made it seem much longer than it was.  But still beautiful.

The Rose Garden is always dazzling and fragrant.
The Japanese Garden was cool and calming.

I'm always amazed at such lush grass, and there aren't any holes with flags in them.

The drive back to the boat through a different part of Victoria
Street art
Float planes at work in the harbor.  We'll see much more of them later....
