Jan 17 Corinto Nicaragua

We first visited Corinto at the end of the 2016 ATW, and visited the ancient city of Leon that time (http://drdavebradley.blogspot.com/2016/06/june-23-nicaragua-another-central.html).  This time, an excursion to visit the traditions of Nicaragua.

Sailing into the harbor we're reminded that Nicaragua is a land of volcanoes.
Quite a welcoming party at the dock
 Traditional folk dancing
 Including the very young
 A potter throwing a pot
Our buddy Luke going off to work.  He's the manager of destination services and he visits all the tour operators.  He has things under control.
A line of children offering maps and information about the country as we exit the gangway.
 Our tour guide, Max
In Chinandega we visit the 17th century Santa Ana Church.

We travel to a nearby family grounds, now done as a park.  There are plumed inhabitants.
But the main business is training horses.  Nearly 300 horses are on site and being trained for racing and show.

Next up is a diplay of Nicaraguan crafts.  Here's a knitted hammock.
 A tortilla maker
A mother duck with perhaps a dozen chicks.
A potter displays first the making of the pot...
...then demonstrations all the steps to go from the simple clay pot to a finished, painted item.

Now it's time for a snack and  dancing.
Tortilla (which we saw being made earlier) with refried beans, rice and salsa.  Surprisingly very good.
 Dancing
For Richie Rich -- that's a "Coke Light" (see the white band around the top) that's the Nicaraguan equivalent of Diet Coke.
Can't end the travelogue without a mention of the ubiquitous pedicabs throughout the city.  If you wanted to anywhere you could flag down a one human-power cab for quick, efficient (and I'm not sure how safe) travel across town.
Sunset in the harbor with one of the many volcanoes of the area.

Typically we don't include personal photos but a friend asked to be remembered by a diet Coke pix so we did!!! Maybe one of these days I'll do it too--but not with product endorsement!
