Jan 16 Punta Arenas, Costa Rica

Punta Arenas is the beach village visited by all the urban Costa Ricans when work ends on Friday afternoon.  Fortunately, we're here on a Thursday and the place was empty, even with another, larger, ship in port beside us.

The pier we berth at is one of the longer ones around.  The city even offers a shuttle bus from the ship to the shore end of the pier.  We walked it.
There is a lovely beach all along the southern side of the peninsula on which Punta Arenas resides.
Lots of places to buy beach food.  Notice the coin operated donkey ride in the middle left.  Every place had one or three or more of them.  Must be a lot of kids who come with parents to these places.
We walked along the Paseo de los Turistas because, well, we're tourists.

Stage for open air entertainment.  Concrete amphitheater seating is to the right of the picture.

This was one of the locals sunning at the beach, about 3 feet long.  His sun bench was much more interesting.
This was an all time cool skateboard park.  It's a full oval, with banked turns at either end and undulations in between.
The lizard has moved along by this time.  In my mind I see this as a roller derby park, perhaps with the lizards playing an active role.

There was a pod of dolphins in the bay.  I got a couple of lucky sequences of them playing.

The lighthouse at the far end of the peninsula.
A fishing and ferry port was behind the lighthouse.
One of the many markets along the main street.  We bought a Coke here for $2 (actually less -- the guy offered change but I told him to keep it.  I had no further Costa Rican purchases planned.)
Here's a House Hunters International opportunity for you.  With original siding.

The town church with the title of Catedral de Puntarenas.

Back at the pier we return to the tourist shopping district.
There was lots of driftwood on the beach.  Fortunately Cynthia is no longer collecting it.

Our home for the next 170+ days.
