Day 2 in Reykjavik, we take the Great Circle Tour. It's available from all of the tour operators and visits the impressive Gullfoss waterfall, the Geysir thermal area, and Thingvellir National Park, the founding spot for the Icelandic nation. It's the "must see" tour from Reykjavik.
Since it's a long drive to Gullfoss there's a comfort stop along the way, at a shopping area that includes a view of the fissure created by the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Eurasian plate on one side, North American plate on the other.
Farming is possible in some areas of Iceland.
Famous Icelandic horses -- don't call them ponies. Smaller than the horses you're used to, they are protected on the island. No horses can be imported, or even returned to Iceland once they leave.
Gullfoss waterfall
Geysir thermal area
Stokur geyser, erupts for about 2 seconds every 8 minutes or so. Requires patience and a quick hand to capture it. Remember that the wind is blowing about 40 knots, and it's about 38F.
Thingvellir National Park located right along the separating ridge.
Here's where the Icelandic nation began about 900 CE. And the current nation was inaugurated here in 1944.
Finally a view of Reykjavik from the Pearl, a building providing an excellent 360 view
Hallgrimm cathedral dominates the skyline of Reykjavik.
Street art -- Dancers.
