Feb 7 Santiago

With Valparaiso out of action there were no tour options available, so we took the day off.

We did get out early in the morning before it got too warm and walked around our neighborhood.  The Sheraton Santiago Hotel & Convention Center is right next to the Metropolitan Park of Santiago, a tall ridge with hiking and biking trails, a cable car and a funicular. Our guide repeatedly told us it was a safe area to walk in.

Walking along the path with the hill rising to our left.

There's the cable car, but it didn't start running until 10am and it was before 8am.
This was the cable car terminal.
Walking through the neighborhood near the cable car. I have no idea of the make or year of this.  IT was very dirty and dusty, yet looked like it still ran.
At every house the trash was stored in bins that were about chest height.  Why?

We walked back to hotel through a sculpture park along the river.
Costanera Center, with a 66 story skyscraper.  There is a mall below it and an observation floor on the 63rd. It's the tallest in Chile. We didn't visit, but it loomed over most of the area.
This is art.  I don't explain them.

This looks like a forest of metal poles, but when you get up close...
...it's a maze.  As there was no prize in the center, I didn't try to solve it.  And the walkways were less than 18" wide.

This one is titled "Sol y Luna".  I don't know which is which.

Our hotel.  We went into the downtown area later in the day, looking for food and an ATM. You have to cross about 8 lanes of traffic and a river to get into the downtown area. Fortunately they have lights and crosswalks.
The wedding party passed us on the bridge.  I guess they were taking pictures in the sculpture park, or maybe solving the maze.
