We begin a new adventure today, with our first stop in Munich Germany. This will be a long trip, most of it on a cruise ship, but we decided to start with a couple of German cities. Munich is first.
We got off the plane sleep deprived but ready to go on a beautiful day. Our hotel is right across from the train station and a short walk from the center of town. Best way to beat jet lag is to get out into the sunlight, so we did.
St Michael's church along the pedestrian mall
The symbol of Munich, the twin spires of Our Lady Church
We timed it just right for the glockenspiel performance at Marienplatz.
The wedding begins
The climactic moment, the French knight is dehorsed by the Bavarian Knight.
St. Peters Church
Lunch at the Victuals (Viktualienmarkt) the open air market just off Marienplatz
blue & white Maypole by the Victuals Market is one of 30 around town.= iconic image of Munich
twin spires of Our Lady Cathedral
Maximillian suggesting we go over there
Dinner was at the Augustiner Keller biergarten. Food was good -favorite of locals
Since neither of us drink beer, we were pretty much alone in our beverages. Liters of beer went by with great regularity. And it wasn't Oktoberfest yet.
